September 16, 2010: Our trip to La Ceiba began at 7:30am on Thursday morning. One of our friends and fellow teachers at Maranatha, Claudia, gave us a ride. What a blessing! The ride helped us save money, and we got to try this delicious fruit called rambutan. Dozens of tables piled high with rambutan lined the road when we were about 1-2 hours from La Ceiba. Claudia and her husband decided to stop and bought us a whole bag to share :). The colorful shell pops right open and the white fruit inside has a jello-jiggler like consistency. |
It's similar to lychee if you have ever tried that, but it's less messy. The flavor doesn't really compare to any other fruit I've had, but it's very yummy! |
As soon as we met up with Miss Myla in La Ceiba we went back to her mom's house, changed, and drove to the ocean. |
The girls were taking pictures, but after a minute or two I ran to the beach like a little kid. The water--ah!--it was so warm. Perfect temperature. |
Cia & Nelly in their matching Jamaica shorts. So pretty! |
Beautiful Kadian |
Baywatch run= check. lol. This is really impressive considering how much laughing was going on. |
*ROAR* Okay, so my roommates all think that it looks more like a 'bark', but how lame is that? I was definitely roaring like a lioness. haha. Actually, I think I was exclaiming because a wave had just knocked me over. |
See the rainbow? It was a little faint, but it stretched all the way across the sky! |
Great way to spend any day. The sky was overcast most of the time we were there, so I didn't even get sun burnt :). |
Kadian sitting in some random man's boat :) |
Happy face. |
It started raining! What a perfect end to a lovely ocean visit. |
Cia and I totally loving the rain. The exposure on my camera was a little high; thus, I am glowing. lol Oh the joys of being pale. |
Smiling through the sand flies that were biting us. |
In case the gorgeous ocean view wasn't enough, this was right on the other side of us. |
Sweet little Reina. She befriended us, gave us shells as presents, and melted our hearts. Seeing the big swollen bellies of her little siblings and the sad face of her big sister was a chilling reminder of the poverty that many Hondurans survive in. We were so happy that one of the ladies we came with bought some avocados from her. |
September 17th, 2010: Shopping at the mega mall. A lot of stores have these little lockers for you to put your things in while you shop. |
The mall was so big and nice! I found a watch so I can finally stop carrying my travel alarm clock around at school. Cia and Nelly found Digicel phones. Long shopping day, but it was an overall success. |
Miss Myla's cousin Ronda was so kind to pick us up from the mall! We piled in the back of her truck. Christian (our "little brother"), me, Kyle (Christian's cousin), and Dawnelle. |
Deandre and Clyve--such cuties. |
La Ceiba streets |
Miss Myla took a picture for us. Kadian and Darcia were in the front. |
September 18th, 2010: We were on the church's bus a little after 8am and began our way to the English church. The bus stopped to pick up people until it was completely full (although still had plenty of room by Jamaican standards, I'm told). -Dawnelle, Kadian, Darcia- |
We got to the church sometime around 9 and waited for everyone else to arrive. We were a little sleepy, but it was SO wonderful to have church in English. I was missing Steven a lot, but thankfully the welcoming people and the engaging preacher helped cheer me up. |
Rather than take the lengthy bus ride, we all climbed in the back of Ronda's truck. With most lady-like ease, of course :) haha. |
The church. We definitely want to come visit again! |
This is the little church bus we came on. |
More La Ceiba streets |
Driving by the ocean |
Kadian and I are starting to get on some kind of twin brainwave. We both wore dresses the day before, and now we both had planned the same shade of purple shirt to wear with capris :) lol |
The four of us! Finally a successful picture. We were all laying in front of a fan trying to somehow stay cool in the muggy La Ceiba weather. |
